So tomorrow is the biggest show of the summer in my personal opinion when french electro pioneer DatA breezes through the city with support from Winnipeg up and comers Jamall Knight and Dial-Up. It's not very often that we get to see a french act without having to travel east to Toronto or south to Minneapolis so the fact that I only have to travel to the village has got me chuffed beyond words. If you spend money on any show this WKND make it this one. At 5$ it has everybody elses bottom line beat and the talent on display is not to be missed.

Thursday Is The New Friday

So many events on this week that my mind may not be able to handle it all. LMFAO is tonight, tomorrow is the usual hi jinx @ Goodform, Friday french electro giant DatA cruises into the Peg instead of L.A. TYVM, and Friday sees the return of MSTRKRFT. Our friend Jamall Knight will be opening all of the above shows so you'll hear more than enough dope tracks to get you sweaty for the headliners. I will most likely not be at MSTRKRFT because I have seen them and after all I will have seen DatA do a DJ set the nite before so I'm sure I'll cope just fine. Mystery Street Meat

Italian duo hooks up with elusive producer who wishes not to be named either in an attempt to pull a Fake Blood or to hide from the spotlight entirely. I still think its Benny Benassi and his brother Alle but that's just my opinion. What's All That Racket?

French electro poppers Housse De Racket have just put the finishing touches on their new EP called 'Synthesiseur' which is culled from the 'Forty Love' debut. It's a slice of indietronic that bares a likeness to one of the remixers (Teenagers) and has a real chance to blow up this summer. (God knows they are touring to support it.)(See Below)

However, heating up the dancefloor is what we are all about here so I'd like to speak a moment about some of the wicked remixes on board for this single. We are treating you to the Das Glow remix which carries this tune away to a world where light and heavy converge into a cataclysmic clusterfuck of electronic waves. Always transmitting the original melody but never allowing it to take precedence over this finely tuned Das Glow effort. The other remixes are by Mixhell, Van She, The Teenagers and Housse De Racket self remix and they are all worth a spin 'specially the Van She.

The Juan Maclean 'Happy House' gets the best upgrade (not that it needed it) from Will Saul and Mike Monday. The single also has remixes from Lazaro Casanova, VHS or Beta, Chateau Flight, Paul Woolford and Matthew Dead w/Audion.

Gallia Belgica

From the land of one of my favorite artists comes one of my 'new' favorite artists. I was speaking of Goose and I am now speaking of HighBloo from Hainaut, Belgium. I tend to use the word favorite artist alot around here but I try to spit hot fyah whenever I can on these pages and today is no exception.

Electrotech from Belgium rules here with an abundance if squiggles, blips, cut, run-ups, and electro pecking your fucking brain out. Half way through 'Effective' is probably the nuttiest breakdown of 09 hands down charting way up there with Tiga's 'What You Need'. 'Untitled' does an brilliant impersonation of NIN's Broken & Fixed sounds with abrasive pads and synths that reek of straight techno but have a certain danceability that most obscure stuff never has. Finally its 'Onions' has an almost Shadow Dancer quality but replaces the 90's bass with a zipper bass that sounds more like d'n'b from Hospital records circa 99 rather than electro from 09. All around worth a listen. Hit up his myspace and show this unsigned wiz some weblove.

Hum-Dinger

New French talent for your refined musical palettes today. He goes by the name of Mister J and his beats are of rock steady breaks variety with techy (almost Djedjotronic) type buildups and breakdowns. After hearing some of the earlier stuff being created by this young producer I was concerned that his sound might get compared to some bigger french disco names and thus get lost amidst the hype.

However here he steps forward with a fresh tribal house track with ethereal undertones and punchy bass that sets up like a sped up Diplo track with tons of syncopated snares and rolling hand drums. We think its Tres Magnifique!

Nightshifters Chief Negotiator

Nightshifters label strikes again with our boy Alan Parley a.k.a. Hostage. One of the great things about having a page like this is the connections to cool dj's and producers that are forthcoming with all of their newest songs and reaffirm my belief that blogs help not hurt the music scene. This mix is a giant slice of furious electro that drops my favorite remix du jour of Laidback Luke & Diplo by Foamo. mmm!

Seems like forever since my last Sunday Post and this week is a good week to get back on track. A wide array of style and talents are on display this evening from the Bloc Party remix by Alex Metric that's got that patented Metric sheen to D.I.M. & TAI's collaboration 'Lyposuct' that has been committing dancefloor arson in clubs all over Europe.

Throw in a dash bumpin breaks from General Midi for a veterans perspective and some Sharklslayer, Joakim and Whomadewho and you have the best playlist to blot out the blues of Monday all beginning with the radio edit style of the this Bloc Party single. [Images - Mike Mitchell]

This ones rolls along in a Falkish fashion but goes further into mainstream club territory but still logs the best Bloc Party remix I have heard to date.

Sidechains have always made warm and soft house music with an emphasis on disco setups and leads. There must be something about Spain's coastal breeezes and warm sunshine that showers this Hed Kandi release from Booty Luv. If anybody is planning a trip to Ibiza this summer wait until Aug 29th to go so that you can catch Sidechains do a set at the Hed Kandi night.

Crunk house DJ's Jack Stuart & Slade Templeton dropped this one last month but I only found it this weekend. Better known as Defunct! this 'Fokkin Lekker' EP was put out by Dandy Kid records and features a fellow Pottymouthed producer in Kyle Watson. Who crushes it as usual with his fidgety bit tortured wobble bass.

This one from D.I.M. & TAI hardly needs an introduction since it first showed up as a Youtube video via the Boys Noize blog with it high pitch build to the off beat pokes and jabs from squishy horn machine. Add in the pressed out drum kits and gigantic bass section and you have what ther Japanese Popstars refer to as a "Face Melter"

As I mentioned in the intro to the Sunday Post veterans General Midi have been rocking the British Isles and beyond for some time now without any of the accolades of the internationally acclaimed Prodigy's, Moby's, or Chemicals. Always in a style of funky breaks and drop kick hip hop execution their sound hearkens back to a day of simple electronic sound compositions with cutting edge technology driving it.

FFF (Fuck Folk Fest) Lo Pub Tonight

In the spring we conducted and interview with our friend Christopher Samms A.K.A. Not Animals and as usual my lazy pot smoking ass is just now giving him his due and proper. It actually works out brilliantly as he told us this week that he has a show tonight that will feature not only the man Samms himself but he will now have a backing band to beef up our collective live experiences. OK Vancouver OK have returned to Winnipeg to play the role of headliner and to cap things off its We Eat Meat who are also from Peg City.

Not Animals/Christopher Samms Interview

What sort of music did you grow up on?

I actually didn't start listening to music until just before high school. Before I took matters into my own hands I just listened to whatever my sister listened to at the time which was Alanis Morrisette, The Offspring, Oasis, some Nirvana and lots of Bush (Bush X if you're hardcore).

What sort of music currently inspires you?

Lately I'm really inspired by new wave pop. Really up-beat stuff with a lot of reverb. Old and new. It really gets my attention if I can hear the 50s pop/surf influence come through despite the distortion and effects pedals.

When did you start to produce music?

I started producing music in the middle of high school making trip hop albums under the name DJ Budferd. That would have been around 2001. I haven't really stopped since.

What made you choose Not Animals as your moniker?

The reason why I like Not Animals is because it's a nice, short ambiguous name that actually comes from not being The Animals (with Eric Burden). Also it sort of naturally incorporates a sarcastic denial of humans actually being animals.

Who or what has been the biggest influence?

The one thing that my main influences all seem to have in common is that they are all from the 80s. Everything from Grandmaster Flash to The Jesus & Mary Chain. So I will have to say the 80s have been the biggest influence.

What would you rate as the best experience that you’ve had in the music scene so far?

This might seem cheesey, but I think seeing people that I've never met before at the shows, buying cds, and actually, honestly enjoying the music is the best part. A perfect example of this would be when my old band Tigerrr Beat played NXNE in Toronto where we knew nobody, but still had an awesome crowd that had no obligation to be there whatsoever and still danced and had a great time. That was a great experience.

What’s the first record/CD you bought?

This is kind of embarrassing. The first CD that I bought was the soundtrack to the 1998 film Lost in Space. I really liked techno as I went into high school, but had no idea what was what so I would just buy soundtracks and go from there.

What can people expect from your live show?

Up until recently you could expect a guy with a bass and a boom box with a tape of beats and keys in it. But now I have a few friends helping me play my songs. It's more interesting to watch that way. You can also expect to want to dance a little or at least tap your foot.

What are the top five most listened to tracks/songs on your iPod?

What are your favourite production tools /gadgets?

I can't help but love my Alesis Micron synth, but nothing really beats all of my little keyboards with their own personal sounds and beats. Those instruments themselves can be very inspiring.

When recording do you have a hard time nailing down a songs identity when writing or is more of a stream of conscientiousness thing?

As a solo artist I usually have to record as I write. I come up with one part on one instrument, record it, pick up another instrument and just sort of jam with myself until all of the pieces come together. After I have pieces I write lyrics and figure out the structure from there.

If you had to put a genre label on yourself as an musician what would it be?

As a musician... I guess it would have to be pretty general since my two projects are kind of different from each other. I'd have to say that as a musician I would fall under pop. I just like writing music that's fun and feels good to listen to.

Socks, hugs and rock n' roll. Is that lame? I don't really know how else to answer that.

Join The Nation Of Zombie (remixes)

Even though the the original is dope this Arveene & Misk cut is simply the dogs bollocks. Zombie Nation is under a full on assault from Shadow Dancer, Hey Today!, Milano, The Proxy, and the aforementioned Irish electro shamrockers. This breakbeat beast pumps and kicks and doubles the bass kicks to perfection.

Misk AKA Phil Byrne is better known as one half of hugely successful breakbeat act called Splitloop, they have played all over the world including UK, Moscow, Spain, Australia, China and New Zealand for starters, released a critcally acclaimed album and got nominated for best album & best producers at the international breakbeat awards, they been on the cover of IDJ and Splitloop also licenced two 'Here on business' album tracks to MTV for their show Barrio 19. New album is due out in the UK late this year.

I Feel Peaches and Cream

Leaving the brash and vulgar tactics behind see the Fatherfucker Peaches cutting some perfect electropop without all the shock and awe of the aforementioned record. Sally Shapiro may spring to mind as she does a fantastic Italo impersonation. Brodinski I haven't heard since 'Oblivion' and Yuksek never stops remixing and here they work their magic once again combining punched out snares and sparkling keys. The slower more methodical stuff from Yuksek always gets me in the gut. Pure love.

Vital Music

New music for you today with Vitalic's release of the 'Terminateur Benelux' EP. Much like the Feadz we posted yesterday its been some time since we have been treated to the French DJ/Producers skills. 4 Songs Fuck

Such a huge back log due to my laziness and situations that are out of my control. I want to post more but I have a hard time keeping up with the hundreds of gmails we receive every day. Here's a couple to reduce the number of un posted gems.

Sorry to anyone who tried to aurally attend our first mix session for The Hype FM. The bugs have been squashed and Jesse from THFM has set the mix to play at the same time this week - Promise. 8:00 PM EST this Saturday the 11th. All of the talk of radio shows has me thinking playlists so with that I give you a taste of the tracks that made the cut.

First up is a spacey pop tune from Telepathe who hail from Brooklyn. A mixture of Ladytron, Postal Service and M83 in a blender comes to mind. The Shoes add a bit of spice to this one bringing the radio edit some dance appeal whereas the Loving Hand and School Of Seven Bells, Fades and Shades remixes are way on the experimental side.

Picking up the pace is Dylan Rhymes and Meat Katie on this collabo that has a distinctly Lot 49 edge to it all. Teched up house lines that morph and transmogrify into weirdo electro breaks and and sweaty warehouse trance touches. Dark and brooding but still progressive.

Lo Fi Disco with a Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction era) on vocals are some of the notes that spring forth when I play the original 'Big Weekend' from Lemonade. I haven't been able to pin down which part of the U.S. they are from because they say
3 different cites on their myspace but I guess it really doesn't matter that much.

Delorean is a highlight remix as well as the one we have here from L-Vis 1990. As usual L-Vis takes the road less traveled with fresh pads and snare drum manipulations and beats that cannot be found anywhere else... good luck mixing this one.

Finally it Feadz. Its been a long time since the 'Happy Meal' EP which gave us the classic track 'Numanoid' My pal Leigh included the Flashin Outro in a upcoming mix he did for us and after hearing it mixed into Curtis Mayfield's 'Supafly' I will never be the same. The name of his Ep is P*N*M*B or (People Numbers Money Business) and it has all Ed Bangers brand of beefed up almost electro hop in its foundations.

Our favorite disco revivalist (who's not from France) is our friend and fellow traveler on the path to musical enlightenment through positive vibes . I speak of course of the his excellence the Divine Mother Zebrass. Once again the L.A. DJ/Producer captures the best sample and rarest groove snippets to eclipse his competition. Hype fist pumping house.

'Don't Go In The Water'

Whether its the remix of Curses! 'What I Need' or the benign bangings of Renaissance Man's 'Spraycan' the Finnish futurists DJ PUSHUPS & SIR NENIS a.k.a. SHARKSLAYER make electro of the more interesting variety than your average crews. Sparser patterns and repetitive waves of nu school production. 'Don't Go In The Water' is their newest genesis in the form of an EP out now on TOP BILLIN. Also be sure to check out the remix of Rico Tubbs' 'Boom Riddim' on Herve's Cheap Thrills label.

So I'm sitting here waiting for my job interview to start... thought I'd get my mind off things by doing a quick post. First up we have a new remix by Lars Moston which sounds quite dub dirty to say the least. Second on the list, our French friend from France Dilemn has a new laid back banger titled "Modern Slave".
