Sunday Post

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show last night at the Albert. From the transient regulars who were there since 7 PM to the hipsters who paid the door charge just before closing. From the blood spat ceilings to the disco assault from Get Famous! It felt like New York in the club last night because theres something special about the downtown heritage dive. Some punk rock ethos rubbing off on the suburban kids that were wearing American Eagle last year but have now traded it all in for American Apparel. (Paintings by CHLOE EARLY)

So long since a Sunday Post that I may not remember how its done. Maybe Paris' DatA can help get me back on track. Ever since the remix of Tepr's 'Minuit Jacuzzi' and their glorious electro pop hit 'Rapture' I have been freaking out waiting for new material. It was worth the wait. 'Nightmare' is perfectly executed and tight starting with a big beat beginning and stabby overloaded bottom leads. Break beat cacaphony that never gets off its leash. Harnessed aggression and crunch melded together by God knows how much hardware and software manipulation. 'Skywriter' brings vocals back into the scene without it being some remix by and obscure bloghouse producer. As our friend Jamall Knight says 'Original is the new remix)'

DL : DatA - Skywriter
DL : DatA - Nightmare .

This newish stuff from Royskopp was sent to us a couple of weeks back and I forgot about it until now. The Norwiegen duo will release 'The Girl And The Robot' as a single on June 15th worldwide with Joakim's italo edit of the best song(IMO) on the 2009 'Junior' record.

DL : Royskopp - The Girl And This Robot
DL : Royskopp - The Girl And This Robot (Joakim remix)

Chicago's b more breaker Rob Threezy always throws down some classic rave sounds when produces a dancefloor demolisher. From 'Jingle Jams' to 'You Bad' and now 'The Change Up' he never ceases to make fresh hard hip hop d'n'b inspired jams. Fools Gold Jokers Of The Scene shed some darkness over the electro tech rave party and smother it with a layer of fine metallic soot. Our friends from Canada's capital city will be all over the European Union this summer so hit up their myspace to get in on one of my favorite live acts. buy it at BEATPORT LINK

DL : Rob Threezy - The Change Up (Jokers Of The Scene remix)

How does he do it? Shouldn't he be a little uneasy about reworking some of the years most popular indie pop songs? Well he isn't! The release of this already huge song from NYC's Grizzly Bear just illustrates why you can never write off Fred Falke. The sheer number of remixes makes it difficult to create a smash hit every time. The source material can only give you so much and in some cases there isn't much to work with but with Grizzly Bear it is as if these two worlds of house and indie were meant to collide in some astral destiny of dancefloor synergy.

DL : Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks (Fred Falke Extended Mix)

Kitsune Kitsune Kitsune. That could be my entire description for this song below and for those who know you could grab this track blind and be safe in the hands of the french fashion house staple. But for music journalism I would like to highlight my favorite track from the lot. Don't get me wrong the entire Kitsune # 7 is head and shoulders above the rest in every way but there something about drums and worldbeat synth lines of 'Bejan' by Brooklyns Tanlines that brings me back to my adolescent 80's radio tape dj upbringings.

DL : Tanlines - Bejan

Cheaper Thrills trickster His Majesty Andre is back with a remix follows the path of his originals with grumbly funked up electro thats fast and lead footed. Detroit tech synths and pads reverberate this original into a far cry from the Yuksek and housier than the Shadow Dancer effort. Also check out this crazy MINIMIX he did for Annie Mac's Radio One show.

DL : autoKratz - Always More (His Majesty Andre Sometimes Rosse remix) .

This one makes it into the Sunday Post simply due to the fact that it didn't make it into my set last night because of Serato problems. I feel like just usuing CDJ from now on but enough whining here it is.

DL : Laidback Luke - Need Your Loving (Felix Cartal remix)

Dubstep Doozy
DL : Guns n' Bombs - Riddle Of Steel (12th Planet and teaLong remix)

Another Masked Man From France

You'll probably never download an album so instantaneously as this new scientifically crafted french electro/disco house from Jean Moustache. Here's a preview but I doubt that will suffice when you hear from the horses mouth - ME ! That this is an instant classic.

Get Into GROOVECITY Now. It is the only good thing you'll get for free this year. Like Louis La Roche did last year Mr. Moustache has nailed it down in 2009 with this unsigned disco brilliance.

Kangaroo Approved

I have been keeping a close eye on Calvertron lately especially his most recent workings with Wearhouse Music. Adding more and more talent to their ranks is just another reason why this label from the UK is on the rise and will not stop for any electro rave pop nonsense. Pure fidget and jackin house all the way.

The future looks bright as well now that VR pals Dem Slackers just released 'The Joker' EP with Edu K and Lee Mortimer remixing and major upcoming releases from Zodiac Cartel with a remix by BILL EFFF!!! + Lars Moston & Philipe De Boyar 'So Sick' I couldn't agree more emphatically - Soooooooo Sick. Wearhouse Wins Again.

"The eighteenth release from wonderful world of Wearhouse Music, where all things wonky and wrong rule the day.

Calverton returns with The The Down Under EP is massive slice of naughtiness and should come with a health warning; this is big, dirty and very wrong indeed. Break the three tracks down and that still doesn’t dilute or take away the impact of these dance floor bangers. First up, Attack…Co produced with the excellent Signal Drivers and this is large, large and large. Ugly Biach is second on the line up and is another co produce with but this time with Lyndon, if jump up rave electro is your bag, then head straight to this wicked tune!

Last by no means least…Car Thief and this is the perfect way to finish of a brilliant EP of dance music as we know it.

Saturday Snippets

A big apology to anyone who was in attendance at Thursdays Goodform at the Lo Pub. We were under prepared and un-inspired. We normally have our shit together but between using an older mixer and having a low turnout we got bummed and started to pummel the crowd with electro kickdrums and club thug amthems that only sucked more love from the room. Exercising proper Goodform etiquette we tried to built a dancefloor for Mike B and shuffled to the bar for our comp drinks. (All Photos by SNADZ)

Our next show at the Albert won't be so ramshackle and heres the Facebook Info for that.

Up for some dancing we'll I certainly am. Heres a little return to my youth mixed with the latest technology and the ever influential Depeche Mode getting busted by the heavyweight champion producer du jour. Herve has been spreading himself a little thin in some of remixes from the last 3 months and its good to see him return to what he knows best partying.

DL : Depeche Mode - Peace (Herve's Warehouse Frequencies remix) .

One track that I was happy with on Thursday which received a warm reception was Tiga's 'What You Need'. In hindsight I wish I would have played this remix. It would have fit my mood better than the heavy justice party vibe of the original and supplant it with this confused tech house squelchbox.

DL : Tiga - What You Need (Zombie Nation remix)

Funkanomics 101

When I hear the words 'circle kids' I inevitably think of all of the squeegee jockeys that hang out by the graffiti rounds in the village. Every summer they come to buy drugs, sell drugs, and hang out while others do the same. Perpetuating the hipster trend by coming from some of the cities most affluent neighborhoods to slum it for the summer while they figure out teenage rebellion. Oh did I mention they wash windows?

Sorry for the rant.

On to the tunes. Germany strikes again with some new funky breakbeat / hip hop / electro from Funkanomics. I studied Economics in Uni and I have to tell you that I would attend any lectures in funkanomics put on by the Professors Proof, FxFarmer and Bobby Kudlicz. I must confess that I took notice of this EP because of the fine remixing of Just Banks and the Rocstar records co-op but fell in love with almost all of the cuts on 'Circle Kids'

DL : Funkanomics - Circle Kids (Just Banks remix) .
DL : Feist - Sea Lion Woman (Funkanomics remix)

A fine chap by the name of Seb from London sent us a video of his new single. Seb mentioned in his mail that he used to work at Warner music and now works full time on his music and production. Some of his influences are Daft Punk, George Michael and Everything But The Girl. Creative video here with neat time lapse photography, the music is beautiful strings and bottom heavy house and vocals that definitely hearken back to that 90's brit explosion of which EBTG was a part. The new music from Seb will be available through Ferocious Dance in June..

'The Plot' Part II

I initially expressed interest in this Part II series of WhoMadeWho's 'The Plot' EP when I saw that Lutzenkirchen and Discodeine were slated to remix the Danish indie house producers already famous single. I fell in love with a remix by new (to Me) producer named Muzzle Flash.

This remix was lovingly adapted by a lad who is also from Copenhagen named Nicholas Branas (Muzzle Flash.) Giving full respect to the original vocals and just providing the right amount of late night house flavour I was pleasantly surprised by this particular edit and will I will be watching for more from the Dane in the future. '

WhoMadeWho are distributed by Gomma records which has to be one of my favorite labels from the past year. In fact I love everything by Golden Bug as well so I may be biased.

Sunday Post

Not a week goes by that I am not left with a wack of tunes in addition to those that I have tried to highlight. I wish I could shed the dayjob and focus my energies inward to the thing I love most - Music - Alas my dream 'for now' is unrealized. (photos Jacob Ring) Also Here

(Twitter) (Facebook) (myspace) (Hypemachine)

If you are living on the west coast of Canada specifically Vancouver and consider yourself to be hip you my have caught Mr. Metric this wknd at Shine and Hush. Alex continues his tour in Europe that sees him engaged until the end of the summer with more dates to be added I'm sure. Adam Freeland's Marine Parade records releases the originals from Alex and they have seem him transform from a break beat junkie into an electro pophouse icon.

DL : Alex Metric - Head Straight (original mix) .
DL : Phoenix - Lisztomania (Alex Metric remix)

Filthy Dukes are a synth pop outfit from London that have been garnering some rave reviews in some the finer online mags lately. Working here with remixers Burns and Tronik Youth we see a seasoned vet and a new pup go at the 'Messages' track with all they have. Since March I have been eagerly awaitng the release of this brace of brilliance so enjoy.

P.S. Be sure to attend their 'Kill Em All' night in London if you get the chance. They have running it for five years and they have had the biggest play at their spot like, Justice, Erol, SMD and Chemical Bros.

DL : Filthy Dukes - Messages (Burns 'Terradome' remix)
DL : Filthy Dukes - Messages (Tronik Youth remix) .

Institubes robot genius David Rubato shows off his cosmopolitan side with Brussels, Geneva, and London takes us on a sonic trainride with 'Insitubes Express 999'. Fresh off of his 'Circuit' EP and the subsequent 'Lap II' edits there is always a sense of speed and motion at play with physics and time. The amount of data that can be edited into a bar of space is up to Bobmo, Jean Nipon, and David himself.

DL : David Rubato - Institubes Express 999 (Bobmo remix)
DL : David Rubato - Institubes Express 999 (Jean Nipon Seigneur Du Château remix)

Dem Slackers and Mightyfools always get the nod here at voulesrandom because I have an affinity for head bangers, and when I get that itch the Netherlands is there to scratch it. Having a production mentality that bleeds more like Brooklyn than Noord - Brabant the Mightyfools and Dem Slackers continue to push the level of wobbly dancefloor edits. recently Dem Slacker released 'The Joker' EP on Wearhouse music and got some killer edits by Foamo and Edu K.

DL : Kelevra - Love You So ft Kop-O (Mightyfools remix)
DL : Mightyfools - Amsterdam ft Guerilla Speakers (Dem Slackers remix)

Two of my favorites here so not much to say cept that once again Hot Chip surpasses the sound of full time electro house producers with a rework that challenges the likes of Alkan in terms of the ethereal, driving techno remix.

DL : Fischerspooner - We Are Electric (Hot Chip remix)

Just when you thought it was safe to visit your favorite blogs without fear of a Ladyhawke remix you get slammed in the ear with yet another. Its ok however because Fred Falke is here to step on all of the remixes since his 'Back Of The Van' brilliance with a rocked up Black Sabbathy bass version of Ladyhawkes now infamous single.

DL : Ladyhawke - Back Of The Van (Fred Falke Valvestate mix)

This one is for Voules who firmly believes that Xinobi is in command of the entire scene with his disco infused classics. Ever since 'Day Off' we have been closely watching him an all of the discotexas releases with baited breath. Nightriders are that perfect blend of house and pop that made their remix of GRUM's 'Runaway' one our hands down favs. But here it is all about the Portuguese master who bends the original into a french-touched 70 disco floorfiller. Also be sure to be on the lookout for the Super Mal remix of 'Runaway' that we'll have for you later in the week.

DL : Nightriders - End Of Time (Xinobi remix) .

'In System Travel' is an EP that best represents the kind of IDM downtempo that I love. Jamie Vexd get more high praise with this one that beams apocalyptic visions that feel like Amon Tobin at his best but with a more refined break beat edge.

DL : Jamie Vexd - Saturn's Reply

Bonus Material :

DL : Night Drugs - Les Femmes
DL : MEN - Off Our Backs (Pegase remix)
DL : Kap Bambino - Dead Lazers (Birdy Nam Nam remix)
DL : The Presets - Kicking and Screaming (DJ Loveboat's Toaster remix)
DL : Higamos Hogamos - Infinity Plus One (The Emperor Machine Extended version)

Duchess Says :
The Juan Maclean Remix Rules

Montreal's Duchess Says sent us a quick email last week with a smokin remix of 'Black Flag' by none other than The Juan Maclean. Why the hell I took three days to post it can be traced back to the amount of frickin Gmail we have been getting lately.

The Quebec Quartet says they are similar to The Gossip, Chromatics, Glass Candy, 6 Finger Satellite - (punk band) ,Les Georges Leningrad and Motormark. All comparison aside they have been ripping up Europe with their brand of MOOG rock. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Annie-Claude, keyboardist and guitarist Ismael, guitarist and bassist Phil and percussionist Simon Says. All you Euros check the tour schedule below.

Kitsune Maison 7 : The Lucky One

Kitsune has been at the forefront of the upcoming sounds and trends in the sphere of electro and indie pop. So I was more than a little excited to see the lineup of talent on the Maison 7 comp that sees the strongest blend of tunes to date from the French fashion house/label.

KM7 will be released on June 9th @ iTunes, Amazon, Beatport, eMusic, and other digital outlets. As an incentive to purchase the kind folks @ Kitsune are going to award one lucky winner a years supply of all of the Kitsune catalog. I'd like to get my hands on some free clothing from the Kitsune Homme line myself but I can always dream.

TiTAN Of DiSCO

Italian electro poppers Airys have been doing this thing where they send us a remix a week and so far they have had some interesting reworks. I decided to post this remix by Italy's TiTAN because of their amazing original that was sent to us called 'Bruxism Groove' that is pure disco class. This cut is pure nostaligia but quite relevent if your aim is to make the gluteus maximus shake wildly.

DJ EQ is no newcomer, with over 18 years of experience you can sure tell he's got a wide variety of sound to share. The Funky Disco House Producer from Philadelphia was kind enough to send us his brand new mix. Currently working on his new EP titled Discolife, along with playing clubs around the East Coast, he seems to be getting the attention he deserves. Discolife 5 is full of tracks you've probably never heard of and is top notch live quality too. This mix gives a great vibe which is nice on the ears and great for the soul.

Sunday Post

Nothing but hard and fast techno for you this Sunday Post as the Drop The Lime hangover from last night has yet to be cured. The native New Yorker dropped heavy straightforward Trouble and Bass style technical electro for the entire set. The crowd for the show was a quarter of the size of his original trip to Winnipeg but that did not stop his steamroller track selection that brought the bassline fever to a peak by 1:30 AM. He used a mic two or three times in the night with impromptu indie lyrics during a buildup of some of his new material. I got a couple of sweet stock photos of Luca so look out for those in the future DTL and Curses! posts. (Images Sas Christian)

(Twitter) (Facebook) (myspace) (Hypemachine)

Coming out at the end of June will be the new full length album from London's autoKratz. Kitsune will once again back the British duo and after seeing the body of work collected in the 'Down In Out In London And Paris' singles comp I was stoked to see a promo copy of the new album. Sticking to the formula that has fomented their success they have a steely abrasive electro style that pumps like an industrial machine and gets humanized by the soft punk vocals.

DL : autoKratz - Past Your Heart

Bart B More is back to club that tech sound to death with the Holland rave breakdowns and Sinden style bassline reverberations. He killed it on the Curses! track 'Deep End' and here he brings me back to my youth with warehouse melodies and drum and bass notes.

DL : Bart B More - So It Goes (A Day In The Life)(original dub)

Our favorite Italian producers Blatta & Inesha never miss a beat and for me they leave the Bloody Beetroots in their electro fidget wake. Always big and minimal at the same time thay never make tracks for the fairweather fans, only the strong need apply. Patience and prudence reign supreme in their sterling efforts. Hip hop mixed with breaks is a formula that can't be beat in my opinion and I knew as soon as I heard his one on the Playboy mix they made for us that they were gonna own 2009/2010.

DL : Blatta & Inesha - Punching (original mix)

More of the same for your next track with the 'Beef Jerky' EP from Germany's Boys Noize artist Housemeister. Always cold and clashy and without that warmth you get from a house inspired track. Stern drums placed over top of minimalistic tribal bass stabs. Introspective listening party track that would only suit a dancefloor that is ready for evil electro.

DL : Housemeister - Who Is That Boys .

Keeping to the theme of dark and dirty its U&A Recordings artist Zodiac Cartel and Pablo Decoder working towards that 'house music with a techno soul'. Underground complexity and fresh crisp arena sized beats are a perfect match for the horror house movie score. Feelings of being chased by Zombies or escaped mental patients arise upon further inspection.

DL : Zodiac Cartel - We Don't Play That (Pablo Decoder remix) (rbr)

Argentina's Douster is a French expat who created this aptly titled EP for Sound Pellegrino which is a little brother label to Institubes. They got Das Glow to add even more weirdness to the already strange EP. Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico seem to be leading the South American revolution.

DL : Douster - For Weirdos Only (Das Glow's Doustin Hoffman remix)

Drop The Lime @ HI-FI Tonight

Luca Venezia a.k.a. Drop The Lime & Curses! is gracing us with his DJ presence @ HI-FI tonight with Trompe Le Monde DJ's Mike B & Jamall Knight. From what I have heard from Luca on DJsets.com we are in for a real treat. He has been at the decks of the many major euro festivals/Coachella and tons of exclusive NYC and London parties. Not to mention running Trouble and Bass and doing stints for Institubes with his Curses! persona. HI-FI has once again delivered a hero.

'Push That System' EP by Costello

Awhile back I posted a Costello remix of the 'Give Me Some Electro' by Utku S and in that post I mentioned that Costello had a new EP out called 'Push That System'. The french tech producer sent along his two favorite cuts from his recent works and made them available for all to enjoy.

The title of the track 'Push That System' is a dead giveaway because it is heavy and breaky and will surely test the bassbins if given the chance. Also hailing from Bordeaux is dAMseY with 'Bad Oscillator' getting the Costello touch.
