Sunday Post

I'd like to start off the Sunday Post with a shout out to everybody at Lo-Pub and the Goodform guys Jamall Knight and Mike B that allowed us to treat the dancefloor to a sensual electro massage last Thursday. Sam Roberts and The Stills were on hand as part of their afterparty whilst on tour in Winnipeg which gave the show a touch of celebrity. All in all many drinks flowed and the Lo-Pub once again redeemed itself as Winnipeg's best live venue for new and exciting lineups. [PHOTOS - TRE DADLAR]

First up this week is actually something that is for the future more than the past week. Yuksek's highly anticipated full length album 'Away From The Sea' is released digitally tomorrow and in stores on Feb 2nd. We have a couple of tracks from the new album and they are exactly what we have come to expect and love from Yuksek. On Birdy Nam Nam's new record I found there to be quite a bit more of the awkward electronic moments that plague most full lengths.

In stark contrast Yuksek's slower tracks like 'A Certain Life' take a more dance floor approach with overall lounge disco vibe than introspective experimentation of some of BNN's new songs. The major highlights for me are 'Tonight', 'Little Dirty Trip', 'So Down' feat Chromeo, and lastly the tracks included below. Buy Yuksek's newest @ Amazon, 7 Digital, Beatport and Juno.

More remixes from Norman Cook's newest electronic project The Brighton Port Authority. The remixes we drop below are the only ones worth a listen in my opinion and so far thats never steered me astray. This track is one of many amazing cameos the BPA has from Dizzie Rascal and David Byrne to in the case Iggy Pop.

The Layo and Bushwacka! cut is in the style that won the hearts of festival goers all over Europe. Euro break hop a la Skint records. The Twelves certainly need no introduction so when I say this sounds like a Twelves remix do NOT take offence. In an era where only 1 out of every 5 Fred Falke remixes is going to be great we can look to the rock steady beats of the Brazilians to provide us with our fix of 'killing me softly' bangers that never expire.

After having been told I was well out of order for posting the Herve remix of this song I thought why not see just how crazy the label is with regards to intellectual property. Dirty Disco Youth takes a crack at the yet to be released new single from the UK's most well known electronic artists. As usual DDY doesn't ease off the gas because the track is already caustic, he just adds more acid to already blazing chemical fire. (I like this better than the Herve remix anyways!)

DL : Prodigy - Omen (Dirty Disco Youth remix)

Just say the words Golden Filter and my ears start to perk up. Whether its in the club and I am hearing Solid Gold' or this new remix that they have applied to 'Lay It Down' by Peter Bjorn & John. Spooky and cerebral as always they have a the best 'Old sound' production of any of their peers of the moment.

DL : Peter Bjorn & John - Lay It Down (The Golden Filter remix)

I am guilty of posting my fair share of Empire Of The Sun remixes this is true but in my defence unlike other blogs I don't post every ableton newbies latest monster. Thus far I have liked the work of Timothy Marc, Dorkatronique and today its by Aussie super producer Shazam. This one dropped in mid week and has not left the Ipod since.

DL : Empire Of The Sun - We Are The People (Shazam remix) .

Moulinex is another one of the cats who never misses the mark and I guess the same can be said for Bayern Bit Hop impresario Ben Mono. 'Jesus Was A B-Boy' is the best title in 09 so far for a single. Moulinex is way too disco to be from the same land as Boys Noize, Lutzenkirchen or Alter Ego but it all works.

No offense taken on the "sounds like a Twelves Remix" taken. I completely agree that they have a definitive sound when you hear it and go "Oh, that's a Twelves remix." But, just like every other good thing, it needs to be taken in moderation. ;-)
