Regime Change - The Democratic Way
The new year dawns and with it the hope of a better future in the United States is at hand. Even if financial crisis looms for the newly elected Barack Obama confidence is restored with a competent and qualified President. I am a resident that resides North Of America and the paradigm shift that we have witnessed south of the border will allow Canadians to exhale a sigh of relief in seeing off the bumbling Bush. Barack Obama was the 2008 news story. (pics from U.S. National Archive)
My New Years was spent with some close friends at my favorite watering hole the Lo Pub where people grooved early to the sounds of Jamall Knight and then rocked indie with Novillero.
Norwegian duo Datarock have caught my ear with the remix they received by Villains and as a result earned a new fan. Their originals are funky, upbeat, danceable and lyrically sharp. 'Computer Camp Love' is exactly as the title suggests with the tale of love at first sight geek style. Datarock have listed Devo as one of their major influences and have even met with the band to discuss the possibility of Jerry(bass guitar) in doing the next video for them as he directed all of Devo's major singles on video. California duo Villains kept me planted on the dance floor when they visited Winnipeg in 2008. I still can't beleive the show was only 5 bones. Amazing!

U.K.'s DJ/Producer George Lenton was gracious enough to send us all a couple of his works from 2008 and seeings how I wasn't able to squeeze them before last night that doesn't mean that they should not be shared. With electro sensitivity and progressive tendencies he walks the perfect balance beam between dark and dance floor. Heavy but spacey enough to give touches of lightness. 'Your Love' is the quintessential garage style ringer that would have killed if you had the good sense in playing as a party somewhere last night.

New stuff from Australia's Klaus Hill is always welcome. Having worked with such heavyweight labels in the industry such as Potty Mouth, Hussle and Ministry Of Sound Klaus has hit the mark again with his 'Rock The Disco' EP on Bomb Squad records just before the new year. Get the rest of the EP HERE

Ghosts n' Stuff made me proud to be Canadian when I first heard the string infused bottom heavy bouncer that blew up the Beatport charts. Once in the firm grasp of the sought after Hamburg remixer producer it gets a Dominator style scrub down and re-build. Opting for the straight four on four beat rather than the break house of the Toronto producer works just fine when paired with the touches of this young Germanbreak out.
